Personal Opinions:
1. Equating success with materialistic wealth and academic success is like saying you’re successful once you’ve become a rich hamster with academic designations. *No offense to hamsters: I think hamsters are cute.
2. Everyone has a different definition of success, so if you’ve got your own personal goals and you achieve them – regardless of what everyone else has to say about it, then you’ve made it. We are all in our heads after all and small successes count – don’t underestimate personal achievements: be it inventing something that changes the world or remembering who you are.
A cousin, who I haven’t spoken to in years, and I recently got in touch. We’re both coming from the realities of poverty so our upbringing had similarities. We were talking about each other’s lives and how we came to grow etc etc. She was saying how it took her a while to get up on her own feet, to which I said, “It’s like that. When you’re coming from a household of drama, when you get out of the house, you will attract the company of those that elicit the same type of shit…up until you come into terms with yourself.”
So, Ultimate Success, by my definition would be: Mastering inner peace in a world of chaos….and that, my friends, is not something you can achieve with bling bling or swag swag.
